Matte photo paper which side

I haven't tried the "sticky finger" method, but I'd guess you want to just have the finger-tip damp, touch a corner, and move your finger up. The coated side will be more prone to "follow the finger" than the uncoated side. Or not? Thank you Petruska. Although Don spent 2 days, not nearly as long and costly as me. In fact, I feel like a complete idiot. Canon instructions call for printing on the "whitest" side of their matte photo paper.

Depending on the light source, either side was brightest white. I went back to amazon. Problem solved: Staples matte photo paper prints on both sides; and as an added bonus, the paper is 62 lbs vs Canon's 45 lbs. I also us Canon Pro Platinum photo paper, 80 lbs weight, coated side visible. I was sitting here, gazing at the wasted box of Canon matte photo paper and thought I'd give the Internet another try. I took Petruska's advice to print both sides and returned to share the results.

Hopefully, this will spare someone the grief. The side facing away from the cellophane wrapper flap takes Canon inkjet printer inks best. In other words, the side facing the cellophane flap should be face up in the paper tray. Good printing! You weren't the only one to ever have this question. Here I am, 4 years later, reading up on it and finding out how to make it work sticky fingers for me.

Grab two sheets, noting the orientation out of box. Take them outside in sunlight and compare them. Flip one over. Normal indoor light doesn't have much uV and it's harder to tell the difference inside but outside it's really easy. The print side practically shouts! With the paper I use Permajet Matte Plus , the box is labelled with the direction.

Also, the paper has a very slight curl and the printing side is on the inside of the curl rather than the outside. The printing side is also obviously whiter than the back side but this is only clearly evident under bright light a bright lamp or sunlight.

The sticky side test has never really worked for me - I guess it depends on the paper make. Don this has been an issue way back from the days of wet darkroom paper. I can assure you being in the total dark trying to load a sheet of colour 24" paper by lipping a tiny edge to see which side is sticky, is not perfect but worked. I can't imaging with inkjet paper and working in full daylight that we are still subjected to the same silly process Perhaps with many sellers trying to attract an audience, it might dawn on someone that a simple line or logo might attract a lot of attention.

When the print is done and sold, how nice to have the buyer see your proud marker on the back of the amazing print. Seems too easy for an industry still trying to teach photographers that they should crop their images to fit an old graphics A size! Those Epson papers are excellent, high-end media. The dye prints were every bit as bright, saturated and deep as the pigment prints had been. I think it's quite a bit better than the Canon "Photo Matte.

It's now my "standard" high-end art paper. The matte coating of matte media is slightly whiter than the back side of the paper use a strong light source and viewed at a low angle has a noticeably smoother, uniform, diffuse surface than the back of the sheet. I used roll paper in my large format Epsons. Of course, the printing side is the outside of the roll.

But before that I used Epson sheet paper. That always came with one corner notched to allow identification of the "good side" of the sheet.

I wish Canon notched their sheet packs. Is it worth the hefty price tag? Posted on April 4, by Aron. Method 1 — Trial and Error Print a sample — if it is rubbish, you have printed the wrong side, flip over and try again. Method 2 — The Visual Test The coating on inkjet printing paper is often slightly different in colour than the base paper itself. Method 3 — The felt tip Putting a small mark using a felt tip pen will also indicate which is the coated side. This entry was posted in Product Information.

If I do get mixed up, I use a fingernail to test for texture. I printed wrong side up a few times, but have been lucky for a few years now. On Epson printers, this is pretty easy to avoid once a workflow is established, but it can happen. Having the wrong media-type chosen might cause some mottling, especially if it's way off, like matte for glossy paper. Hi all, Thank you SO much for the advice!!

I did the wet finger and see which side was "tacky" and that indeed showed one side MUCH more tacky than the other It produced a wonderful looking picture of our of our family's pups.

I guess 3rd time IS the charm, haha. Yep, I had gone through and to the best of my ability, I had doubled checked to make sure either the printer was doing color management, or the application was doing it On1 RAW. I did the soft proofing, and make a 2nd copy to adjust to get the soft proof to look more like what the ink and paper copy should look like and it appears it did a good job I've not broken into them, but with each giving only sheets of paper of each type, I hope to figure out which side is up as quickly as possible and not waste any.

Thank you all!! Reactions: YuengLinger. Don Haines Beware of cats with laser eyes! Jun 4, 8, 1, Canada. Fortunately for me, I have never done anything so foolish Aug 26, The "wet finger on the corner" is my tried and true test for the non obvious papers. I like the Moab paper that are coated on both sides so it doesn't matter, but like YL I keep my Epson Signature worthy papers in the plastic sleeve the same way they came with the notation Print Side Up just to avoid the mix up as much as possible.

It's the matte and watercolor where there's the problem. Jul 6, 2, Davidson, NC. Don Haines said:. Reactions: cayenne. Sep 27, 3 1. Cayenne Add costco. I use some 30 boxes a year.
