At the time, they were looking poised to take over the game. As their plans of taking over became prevalent, there was one thing missing, their leader.
Since that time, each member has said horrible things about each other. Upon his return, there were a lot of questions about him and his crew. The questions about his crew led to questions about his old feuds with heavy-hitters 50 Cent and Jay-Z from years prior.
In , he began promoting his fifth studio album, Crime Pays. While he was doing the promo tour for this album, Cam said that he was all about making money. He said that if the money was right, he would be willing to work with his most-known rivals and willing to reunite with Jim Jones and Juelz Santana. Days after he released that statement, he revealed that he spoke with Jim Jones and they had a long, friendly, conversation. For Cam, that was the last straw. From that point on, he began dissing his former crew in interviews.
There were may people trying to instigate a response from Juelz, but he refused to do so. Despite his current feelings about Cam, it was Cam that gave him his start in the game. After all of the bickering, Kareem Burke, a friend of the crew, said that he could possibly get the crew to reunite. But the album also shows the limits of rap nostalgia at work.
So they rap over sped-up sample beats from the Heatmakerz, and they also collaborate with B-list Canadians like Tory Lanez and Belly. Juelz Santana sounds haggard, the defiant bark in his younger voice all but gone. Cam sounds casually brilliant but also distracted. But there is a new record that recaptures some of that old feeling. Mostly, The Upstage is just an endless parade of punchlines, some slick and some not.
Unlike the core Diplomats members, these guys have something at stake. And so The Upstage lives up to its title. Everyone should be trying to get Mozzy guest appearances, if only to keep them honest. Lady Gaga flirting with Chief Keef on Thanksgiving pic. As an independent website, we rely on our measly advertising income to keep the lights on. He get touched, we [fall]. That was the method…even with Juelz [Santana]. They all know. I put my life on the line for this.
I been on trial for this! I been on Gang Files for this! I [have done] everything you can name. So when people play with me? Except God. And I been up against 20, 30 deep by myself, where [The Diplomats] left me by myself. Ya heard? Jim then references his own legal challenges due to Dipset.
Even when niggas doubted and downed me, even when I was on trial and niggas told me to take the plea. What plea! Ya heard! When I get sued and shit like that, it was over Diplomats!
